“Photography has extended the limits of our visions in space.” EXPLAIN?

Photographic emulsion and their electronic digital counterpart (CCD) can react to light level mush lower to what we can perceive with our eyes, can accumulate light over long period of time (long exposition) and can react to frequencies that are invisible to us (infrared, ultraviolet, etc).
Thus photography can see things that would would have otherwise missed, and provide a permanent record thereof.
